Punya Mishra

Yesterday I spent the day with a group of educators in a workshop led by Punya Mishra.  My notes from the day can be found at this link and you can also view notes from Matt Townsley.

Throughout the day participants were engaged  in conversations about teaching and learning.  Dr. Mishra also spent a fair amount of time discussing and modeling Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK).  His message centered on how learning can be enhanced when educators are able to  leverage technology, effective pedagogy, and content knowledge.  The TPACK model also highlights that point.

Dr. Mishra stressed that there cannot be a structured way to “do” TPACK because it would minimize creativity & context.  One take away for me was about how important it is for schools and educational teams to have rich meaningful conversations about this structure.  Is technology being used simply for the sake of using technology?  When touring technology rich classrooms, it becomes apparent very quickly which classrooms fall in the center of this model and which ones only align with one of the pieces.  As a one-to-one school, a real challenge and focus should be around using technology along with a focus on content and pedagogy!
